Apple Watch Series 8 ‘will come in three sizes’

Barely any time at all has passed since the release of the Apple Watch Series 7, but we’re already hearing rumours about its successor for 2022.

According to the analyst Ross Young, we can expect the Apple Watch Series 8 – assuming that’s what it’s called, and that the manufacturer doesn’t suddenly decide to change the naming convention it’s followed since 2016 – to be released in three sizes, rather than the current two. This means we’ll get a slightly larger model in addition to the 41mm and 45mm offerings.

Young, whose predictions about the MacBook Pro we covered earlier this week, has a limited track record of Apple predictions but a flawless hit rate from the few he has made. It must be said, however, that on this occasion he appears to be hedging his bets: instead of coming right out and making a concrete prediction, Young offers a coy hint instead:

Moving away from the size predictions, there have also been rumours of a more powerful processor in the next watch, a built-in temperature sensor and further sensors to measure blood sugar levels. In addition, and following the disappointment of the Series 7’s relatively conservative update, a proper redesign may be on the cards – following similar lines to the current iPhone models, with sharper, squared-off edges.

The Apple Watch Series 8 is likely to launch in September 2022, so Apple has plenty of time to polish the details.
